Exhibits and panels at Nuke-Con? What say ye?

Hey all… traded emails with one of the organizers of Nuke-Con again (prior post re thisNuke-con-2013logo). Relevant details follow…

We are a gaming convention that concentrates in all aspects of gaming – board games, card games, role-playing games, live-action role-playing (LARP), miniature gaming, dice, computer gaming, etc.  We’ve been running our family-friendly convention for 22 years so far.  We also have guests of honor from all realms of gaming and art – fiction writers, game book writers, gaming, comic and fantasy artists.  We also run various panels on any sorts of subjects – usually centered around gaming such as game creation, role-playing, submitting game articles, comic creation, etc.  It all depends upon what people are interested in presenting.  All of our games and panels are run by volunteers so they change year to year.

So, to your question – “What exactly did you have in mind?”  I could see a couple opportunities for us to work together of which we can do any or all.  I’m also open to other suggestions.

1) You have your monthly meeting at our convention.  We wouldn’t charge for them attending your meeting, but if they want to enter Nuke-Con, then they would have to pay the entrance fee.  They could also preregister which is cheaper than at the door.
2) Have your organization run some panels.  Again, if your organization simply executes panels, then the presenters wouldn’t have to pay anything.  They’d only have to pay if they wanted to play in the convention itself.
3) Be an Exhibitor in the main hall where all of our gamers have access to where you can do demos, pass out information, etc.  It costs $30 for the weekend to be an Exhibitor.
4) Be a Vendor – again in the main hall.  Vendors are allowed to actually sell wares plus do everything an Exhibitor may do.  It costs $70 for the weekend to be a Vendor.

Overall, we usually have 300+ attendees to Nuke-Con; most of which are involved with gaming in some manner or another.

My initial thoughts are that we could be an exhibitor. We could set up a booth (or whatever) with info on the OGDA,  some machines running demos of members’ work, etc. We would have to staff it with a few people but we could work out a schedule of who is there when.

Also, I don’t think it would be a big deal for us to slam together a few panels. They could be semi-moderated (I will volunteer for that role, schedule permitting) and also take questions from attendees on what being a game dev is like, etc. You guys can probably figure out the drill.

Anyway, thoughts on this? Comment below rather than on Twitter so that we can keep the replies in once place.

I would also try to have something ready and/or help run a panel.

This sounds pretty effing awesome. I’m in for manning the exhibit and maybe even doing a panel. I’m sure we’ll talk more at the meeting. Can’t wait
